FactorLab

Technical Leader, Software Architect - November 2018 - Current

 Created AWS infrastructure (Lambda, Batch and Docker) to process through millions of data rows per day.
 Created the Bronze, Silver and Gold repositories as well as the code to transition the data between them.
 Used Lambda initially and re-architected to use Batch when the row counts overwhelmed Lambda.
 Implemented Data Scientist's algorithms using Python/Pandas to calculate gestures from raw watch data.
 Facilitated DataBrick's configuration so the Gold data could be loaded and visualized using Tableau.

SYSCOM, Inc.

Technical Leader, Software Architect - March 2003 - November 2018

 Acknowledged as the company's Java/JEE, Python, Scala, WebSphere and Tomcat expert.
 Designed/created a Java services product - 10,000+ licenses sold - continues to earn annual maintenance.
 Designed/created a C# desktop viewer - 10,000+ licenses sold - continues to earn annual maintenance.
 Regularly used in projects with very inexperienced developers – expected to train and manage them.
 Technical leader in numerous projects involving best of breed open source technology with IBM products including WebSphere, Filenet P8, Content Manager, Case Manager, DB2, MQ Series and Process Server.
 Technical leader in 2 long term projects lasting over 2 years each. The projects integrated document capture with business process re-engineering into a web front end with an integrated mainframe emulator.
 Consulted fulltime for over 1 year with a major health care provider as a Java/JEE/CM architect.
 Designed/created algorithms to augment images adding extra visual data to help emphasize contents. The algorithms are pending patent protection.
 Built a complex MSI installer using Wix to satisfy corporate policies for fortune 500 companies.
 One of only 3 employees offered a job at SYSCOM when PublicBuy.net was sold.

Development Team Leader, Senior Developer - November 2001 - March 2003

 Identified as one of four must retain employees by PBN management when Simplexis was purchased.
 Continued all development on SimpleLink™.
 Took over all development for SimpleSell’s™ extensive use of Oracle's database components (jobs, sequences, procedures, functions, etc…).
 Designed/created an online billing module to accept CC payments using Verisign's API.

Simplexis

Development Team Leader, Senior Developer - May 2000 - November 2001

 Tasked with creating a product that could integrate into school run financial systems both large and small.
 Designed SimpleLink™ which offered queuing & guaranteed delivery over the Internet. SimpleLink™ is to email what TCP is to IP. It required only an email address and a server behind the firewall.
 Directly managed 8-10 people to create the first SimpleLink™ version in under 4 months.
 All messages were hashed and encrypted using MD5 and 3DES respectively.
 Board of Directors said to all employees that SimpleLink™ provided 2 of 3 main company differentiators.
 SimpleLink™ played a major role in earning all of Simplexis’ revenues.
 Simplexis was able to integrate into networks and systems that had never been integrated with before.
 Established Intellectual Property claims for SimpleLink™.

Ariba Canada

Canadian Technical Lead - March 2000 - May 2000

 Recreated the entire set of budget validation rules using Scheme and Java for a major Canadian railway.
 First line of contact for all Ariba Canada employees for all technical Java, Scheme or ORMS questions.
 Actively recruited by a previous supervisor at AMS Canada.

AMS Canada

Development Team Leader, Senior Developer, Developer - June 1995 - March 2000

 Worked entirely in Java, C/C++ and PowerBuilder across various databases for State and Local governments in the US and Canada implementing purchasing and procurement software that integrated with AMS’ financial system.
 Complimented as the lone developer on a 100 person development team asked to train clients. Selected as the only trainer asked to lead large class sessions (80+ participants)
 Played an integral role in winning AMS’ largest contract ever while working out of Virginia.
 Participated in multiple successfully completed system design life cycles.
 One of four people that object orientedly designed/created a desktop for use as a development platform.

 Very proud to have graduated from Waterloo - acknowledged to be the best computer science program in Canada, rivaling the top programs throughout America.
 Awarded very hard to receive entrance scholarships based on 94% high school average.
 Awarded rare "Outstanding Graduating Senior" for playing 4 years of Varsity Athletics (Rugby).

Rugby

Selected to the Canadian u19 National Rugby Team. Selected to multiple Ontario Provincial teams. Captained Provincial Teams. Captained University Teams. Captained Club Teams. Started playing against men at 16. Captained High School Team. Finished second multiple times at the Canadian National Tournament and received many individual awards.

Debating and Public Speaking

As a boy, I had a stuttering problem. To overcome it, I joined debating teams and participated in public speaking contests. This allowed me to work as a large classroom trainer to clients for software I created. I have turned a huge weakness into a major strength.

I enjoy reading books. My favourite book is Pillars of the Earth from Ken Follett. My favourite author is Terry Brooks.

Sports

I really enjoy being involved in sports. I still ski, play pickup basketball, soccer and tennis.
